ONE ARRANGED MARRIAGE MURDER by Chetan Bhagat

ONE ARRANGED MARRIAGE MURDER by Chetan Bhagat

Once again Chetan Bhagat is back with yet another of his magnificent novel 'One Arranged Marriage Murder'. This is a great book in itself like any other that he has written. But even before I start I would like to warn you guys that this will have spoilers. So let us begin.

This story revolves around two friends Keshav Rajpurohit and Saurav who leaves in the same flat in Malviya Nagar. Now Saurav fell in love with Prerna who belongs to a Punjabi joint family consisting of her father Ramesh, her mother Neelam, her aunt Bindu, her uncle Adi, her grandmother who is known as Maaji throughout the story, and finally her cousin sister Anjali who came from Seattle to leave with them. Apart from them, they had a driver named Anwar and a whole-time housemaid named Gopika. Apart from all these characters, there are two side characters one is Prerna's second aunt Geetu and her husband Jacob. Even though Saurav fell for Prerna but it wasn’t a love relation from the start, they met through some arranged marriage site. They were to get married. Now the problem starts when Prerna suddenly decides to keep Karva Chauth fast before their marriage. This decision was just between Prerna and Saurav, and no other family member knew of it. As the occasion demands, to break the fast the wife (in here would be wife) needs to see the moon and then her husband. So she went up to the terrace and waited for Saurav to reach. When Saurav reached Prerna's house and went up to the terrace he found no one there, rather he saw a commotion down the building and eventually finds that Prerna is dead.

While reading the novel there were many plots, where it seemed like suicide but eventually, it was not. Not just that there is going to be a second murder but I won’t disclose that. Let’s keep some for the readers. Anyways if you guys have read Chetan Bhagat last novel ‘The Girl in Room 105’, which depicts the Zara lone case, then you can easily get the characters here because One Arranged Marriage Murder is revolving around those familiar characters and their detective agency the Z Detectives. Even the police character, Rana is also present at some points but he is now a senior Officer here.

The most interesting and unexpected part was that when around chapter 40 or 50, it seemed the case has come to a close, and all the character has got justice and it seemed like a happy ending. The twist comes then, within the last 10 to 12 chapters where the real culprit comes face to face and the real covered blanket is removed from the crime.

Anyways guys I won’t be disclosing any further, including the climax. As you read you will feel the complexity of the situation, the anger of the narrators, at times you will feel sad and at times angry as well. You will feel what the hell is happening.  Chetan Bhagat once again did a great job.  The book is really awesome as always and the most important thing to learn or at least I learned is that don’t judge a book by it’s cover because what seems to be happy and perfect from the outside contains the most dangerous of secrets inside. It is also available as a Kindle edition and as an audiobook.
