THE PALE HORSE by Agatha Christie

THE PALE HORSE by Agatha Christie

"And I looked, and behold a Pale Horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."

The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie is basically a fiction story that includes murder by black magic. The story basically starts with a coffee bar fight between two young women, which is being witnessed by Mark Easterbrook who seems to be the protagonist of the whole story. And, then with the mysterious death of one of them in her apartment, which according to Mark is similar to the death of his grandmother as well. Thus, he travels to seek the truth of all the deaths that happened and, are further going to take place in the future. Discovering various connections linked to a particular inn named as the pale horse.

Agatha Christie readers are quite well aware of her famous fictional detective character known as Hercule Poirot. She got her first break with this particular character, but apart that she also has a novelist detective character named Ariadne Oliver. This particular book contains her presence but for a very short period of time. Throughout the whole story, she is nowhere to be seen except the starting of the plot and in between a few conversations. But in reality, she just plays a very vital part which the readers will understand if they read the book because without that particular conversation it would have been near about impossible to solve the mystery. And the way Agatha has built up and introduced the particular conversation is quite interestingly fabulous (according to me).

Even though it might seem by the zest that the book is trying to provoke superstition among the readers, but it won’t seem that it is in any way doing so, because I felt it is trying to do the reverse by showing the readers to let go of the fear of superstition. It also encourages people to question the deceitfulness that people face in their day to day life. They should always try to question the unquestionable and trust only after full analysis.

Even the whole story can be depicted in the above way but it also has a connection to the bible. Where? It is in 'Revelation' of chapter six, verse eight, the pale horse is said to be connected to the four horses, of which the fourth horse or the horse of death is the pale horse.

Even though all was fine but there seemed to have just one problem that I personally disliked, was the fact that the built-up was really awesome, but the ending seemed to be finished haphazardly. But, Above all this was really a great book to read, and I would undoubtedly recommend the readers to read this book. This book is even telecasted as a BBC program. If you want to experience something different other than a simple detective genre then this is the best to try out.
